Per SDCL 11-4-4, the City of Box Elder, South Dakota Planning Commission and City Council will hold public hearings on proposed amendments to the zoning regulations in regard to the adoption of Ordinance 765: An Ordinance Amending Chapter 44 Zoning Regulations.
Hearings will be held in the Council Chambers at Box Elder City Hall, at 420 Villa Drive, before the Planning Commission at their meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 and before the Box Elder City Council at their meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Any person interested may appear and be heard at either meeting or submit written comments to the Box Elder Planning Department before 5:00 p.m. on May 27, 2025.
The purpose of the proposed amendments is to enhance the clarity and consistency of the regulations. The proposed changes include the addition of landscaping requirements for new development, revised regulations for carport allowances, modifications to off-street parking requirements. Renaming of a couple residential districts to reflect intended density levels rather than permitted uses, and updates to align development standards with the revised zoning structure.
